If you want to improve your game, concentrate on your strengths. You might not become a big basketball star based on your strengths, but you will be an asset to your team. Know what you are good at, then practice it until you’re absolutely perfect at it!

Receiving Player

Bounce passes are extremely efficient when done properly. Executed properly, a bounce pass will connect with the receiving player at the waist. Remember you should bounce the ball approximately three-quarters of the distance between yourself and the receiving player. There are many factors which come into play, though.

TIP! Tricking the other team is a good way to win a game. Try using a back pass! To work it, place the ball in your most dominant hand.

Your mind plays as big a part in making a free throw as your actual body does. You can train your body to complete the motions of making a free throw, but if you are mentally prepared to fail, you will. Relax as you focus on making the shot, and soon you’ll be making more free throws.

Do not only practice zone defense plays. Most of the basketball game will probably be played in this zone, but the other team might decide to surprise you and do some man-to-man coverage. If you haven’t trained yourself to counter this, you could lose any control you have over the game.

Core Muscles

Your child should work on their core muscles if they want to become a basketball player in high school. The core muscles are the hips, lower back muscles and the abdominal muscles. The core is the muscle group that links the arms and legs together. If their core strength is poor, then so will their athletic performance be. The stronger your core, the higher you will jump.

TIP! Hand signals can help stop you from turning the ball over. It is very frustrating when a teammate isn’t open for the perfect pass.

Make it your goal to never turn away from the ball on the court. Passes and turnovers won’t take you by surprise because you will be more aware of what is happening on the court. Knowing where the other players are on the court helps you open passing lanes and gives you more opportunities to take a shot.

Understanding your opponent is a good way to shut him down on defense. One great way to get a better understanding of your opponent is to take the time to watch film and get information from other players or scouts. Learn who the left handed players are and who the right handed ones are. Once you start to get to know the other team, you can do a lot better when you’re on defense. The more knowledgeable a defender is, the stronger he is.

TIP! Ask your fellow team members which of your skills that they admire. Do you do something really good? You may be quick with your footwork or are always there for backing them up.
